PROJECT PROFILE
Project Name

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Inspection and Location of Sanitary Sewer Service Laterals

Project Location North Kansas City, MO
Description

The City of North Kansas City has a very high water table as it is located at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers.  The City has observed high levels of Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) following rain events and during the wet season.  Over the past 15 years the City has committed to reducing I/I and renewing their collection system through a comprehensive manhole, sanitary and storm sewer rehabilitation program.  To date, the City has rehabilitated approximately 90% of the sanitary sewers and manholes and 100% of the corrugated metal storm sewers with the City.  This rehabilitation program significantly reduced the amount of I/I in the collection system and subsequently the overall treatment costs.  With the City’s final goal of achieving a “water tight” system, TREKK was awarded a contract to complete CCTV inspections and rehabilitation recommendations on the City’s 1,150 private service laterals.

The City is responsible for the service connection to the back of the Right of Way (ROW) for all of the service laterals.  With the permission of the home owner, TREKK will locate and televise the service lateral from the connection to the house.

As part of TREKK’s responsibilities, the following tasks are being completed:

GPS Manholes – TREKK will locate and provided survey grade GPS data for all 760 manholes.

CCTV Inspection of Service Lateral – TREKK will televise the sanitary sewer service lateral from the main to the back of ROW or beyond if approved by home owner.

Locate and GPS Service Lateral – TREKK will locate the service lateral on the surface at the main to the house and provide a depth of the lateral.  The alignments will then be photographed and GPS’d and provided as a new GIS layer to the City’s current mapping system.

Rehabilitation Recommendations – TREKK will review the inspection videos, the alignment and depth and provide rehabilitation recommendations for the service laterals.

GIS Deliverables – TREKK will update the City’s existing GIS mapping with a new Sanitary Sewer Service Lateral layer.  This will be used for maintenance, future construction projects, utility locates and for potential developers.
